Maui Houn

Growing up in the 80s, I woke up to Saturday morning cartoons, MTV and drawing supplies. Fortunately, smart phones and social media were not around at that time, which allowed me to focus more on nurturing my imagination. During my childhood, I immersed myself in reading comic books and creating my own superheroes and Disney characters through illustrations. This passion for storytelling has remained with me throughout my life, extending into my college years at the Academy of Arts where I pursued studies in animation film and graphic design. After college, I primarily worked as a freelancer in the early 2000s, but my background in illustration and film has always found its way back into my life. I have come to realize that visual storytelling plays a significant role in marketing, particularly in the realm of technology.

14+ years of
visual communication

In 2007, I began my journey in the tech industry in Silicon Valley. Initially, I worked as a contractor for Oracle, where I used my skills as a whiteboard illustrator to visually explain complex technical concepts during team events. As my career progressed, I delved deeper into the field of Visual Communications and Visual Storytelling. I received training from Duarte and went on to work for companies like Cisco, Samsung, Franklin Templeton, and currently, Guidewire. At Guidewire, I lead the presentation and storytelling section of the marketing department, collaborating with the C-level team and product development team to visually showcase the capabilities of the Guidewire Cloud Core Suite. Additionally, I take on external projects for high-profile clients and notable figures such as GM Onstar, State Farm, and renowned motivational speakers like Tracy Edwards, Aubrey Kipp and  Andrew Rose.

In my role, I also closely collaborate with sales and product marketing teams to ensure they have all the necessary materials for delivering successful presentations to potential clients.
